What is the donut selfie?
New video technique tipped to overtake the selfie as the latest internet trend
Tired of just taking a bog standard selfie now that the Hollywood glitterati and even David Cameron have caught on?
The latest thing in recording every cough and spit of your life online has emerged and it’s called the Donut Selfie. Or should that be doughnut?
Anyway, the selfie has been superseded by one which captures a 360 degree video view of the surroundings of the selfie-taker.
The latest incarnation of the genre, if it is, in fact a genre, was introduced by a woman called Karen X Cheng.
It’s not the first time Karen had started a trend; as she is the woman behind Give it 100 – which had people posting videos of them trying something new for 100 days.
Cheng told Yahoo News: “We were doing sweeping camera motions around the head trying to make optical illusions. I did one that was from one side of my head to the other - made a donut around my head - and the video started looping and was like woahhhh that looks cool.”
Karen has set up a website to coach novices through the practice of creating their own donut selfies.
